theatre director
Hello and thank you for visiting my website. I’m a freelance theatre director currently living in Charleston, South Carolina, and I am available to travel for directing opportunities. I received my B.F.A. in Theatre from Columbia College in Chicago, trained as an actor at the La Jolla Playhouse Summer Conservatory and at The Studio at The American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco. As a director I completed the Summer Director's Lab with Roundabout Theatre Company and The Essentials Workshop at The Drama League. Currently, I reside as an ensemble member with The Village Repertory Company in Charleston.
I’ve spent most of my career as an actor performing in Chicago, including work at the Oak Park Festival Theatre and Bailiwick Repertory. After a move west to Los Angeles I continued to work and was seen in productions at The Complex Theatre and Actor's Circle Theatre. Over the years I've been fortunate enough to move into the director's chair. Serving as the Artistic Director for Threshold Repertory Theatre in Charleston for seasons 7 and 8 was artistically rewarding and a real honor. There, I curated and oversaw the production and opening of twelve shows, ranging from plays by contemporary American writers such as Gina Ginofriddo and David Lindsay-Abare to the classics of Chekhov and Shakespeare.
I have a passion for stories that challenge the audience emotionally, politically and intellectually. Plays that connect the shared experience of the audience while illuminating the perceived differences society often uses to separate us, have the potential to enlighten and entertain. As a director I endeavor to create a collaborative environment from rehearsal to a fully-realized production that fosters a safe place for the crew to flex their creative muscles and the actors to hone their technique without exploiting personal trauma. As a leader, I believe it’s important to encourage theatre artists to tell stories exploring the lives of people outside their own lived experience. To accomplish such a lofty goal, we must ensure that we are literally all in the room together. This, after all, is the only way we can truly understand one another not only as artists, but most importantly, as human beings.
